Day #1 – 15 Day (1) segment per day challenge.

Day (1)

Strava Segment Title: eL Torrito - 1Seg A Day Challenge - TW.Sprint1

Day 1: Day one started out as a normal routine route for me, but when I was about 0.2miles into the route, I had a random thought to change it up. I thought to myself, if I am to really do a new segment to and from work each day, then I will need to be creative in how I develop a new segment each day. Not just to work, but from work as well.

These segments can't be the same. This idea and challenge are to research which route I would be most efficient on. Now of course we will need to take account for obstacles, such as; traffic lights, stop signs, and even the wind for that day.

The general idea though, is to find out which segment route can shave off a few minutes of time each day. It will also be a way to track my segments and compare the data I collect off each individual segment. I will then take the date and determine best segment to take and try to beat or improve. Any suggestions or comments about what ideas may come to mind are welcome here too. This is more of a personal development project than a Strava segment challenge.

Day 1 - The commute back was much more challenging. I also had 10-15 mph winds to deal with. The weather said it was gusts up to 25 mph so I figured 10-15 mph cross wind is a good estimate. It was very hot too. Temperature around 105F

Time for some much needed recovery!

Day #2 – 15 Day (1) segment per day challenge.

Day (2)

Strava Segment Title: eL Torrito - 1Seg A Day Challenge - TW.Sprint 2.0

Day 2: Today started out feeling like I didn’t have adequate recovery time. I felt rested but my legs were a bit weak. It may have had something to do with my meal the night before as well. I didn’t eat prior to heading out the door. Just some water to start out. I will need to focus on diet if I am going to learn anything from this 1 seg challenge. Although, this is a segment challenge so I don’t think I will be tracking diet. I can save that for the next blog or when we look to improving these segment times?
As always, suggestions and comments are welcome.

Day #3 – 15 Day (1) segment per day challenge.

Day (3)

Strava Segment Title: eL Torrito - 1Seg A Day Challenge - TW.Sprint3

Day 3: Okay, we are starting to have some feedback here. I am getting e-mails with questions about what this challenge is. I know it is Day 3 already, but I will explain exactly what I am setting out to do here. I have a commute I do each day. I am creating a new segment each day. This will be a different segment for each day for 15 days. That is the challenge. They will be around 10-mile sprint segments.

The challenge or the reason it is a challenge is because they will be tough to beat. Due to traffic, wind and other scenarios that I come across each day. This was more of a personal project I wanted to do for a while but turned into something I wanted to share with others. To see if I could influence others to beat these challenge segments created on Strava.

Day 3 was tough. I feel like my legs are not recovering from the high heat afternoon commute. If you go to my profile, I will be posting the temperature and wind if there is high heat and wind. Well I hope that clears up some of the questions that have been coming over. Let's look at Day 3 Segment Results:

Day #4 – 15 Day (1) segment per day challenge.

Day (4)

Strava Segment Title: eL Torrito - 1Seg A Day Challenge - TW.Sprint4

Day 4: So, we have made it to day 4! I was so sleepy this morning. I couldn’t rest my weary mind and body at all last night. Therefore; I decided that I would do a segment that was safe and easy downhill.

We received more e-mails, and there are requests to tell you a bit more about myself. I live in Las Vegas, NV and love to cycle, hike, surf, skate, not much of a runner but I will run every now and then. I will also be looking into swimming soon as well. While riding in the high heat of Las Vegas, NV I like to prep for these high heat rides using Nunn hydration sports tablets. You can go to my afternoon activities and see how high the temp gets. I will usually post a photo of anything done in high wind or high heat.

Let's look at Day 4's Challenge segment...

Day #5 – 15 Day (1) segment per day challenge.

Day (5)

Strava Segment Title: eL Torrito - 1Seg A Day Challenge - TW.Sprint5

Day 5: It's day 5! We have only 10 more segments to go after today! This has been fun generating these segment challenges and getting feedback. I have my son currently playing for the Little League All Star team here in Nevada, and they are about to take the State Championship and go on to Regional. I am praying that they do due t it being a once in a lifetime opportunity for him and myself as a father to experience. You can track their progress @ https://www.mrll.org/

Today I passed my usual morning group on my ride. I promised to do a ride with them next Friday, but that is if My son's All-Star Team does not make it to the National tournaments, because I will be in San Jose, CA for the games. This morning group are an amazing group of individuals that have been a huge influence in why I can call myself a cyclist. They truly were my motivation in the start of me choosing to ride! So, shout out to them! Those who have emailed me or who enjoy writing as well. Let me know who influenced you to start or becoming an athlete. I'd love to hear the stories.

This new segment is a lot different than the past 4 segments. It longer, but not too much off the segment lengths and speeds as the others. For a DH segment it felt more like I had more elevation than the other segments.

Day (6)

Strava Segment Title: eL Torrito - 1Seg A Day Challenge - TW.Sprint6

Day 6: It's now day 6 of the event, and I have some of you asking to do uphill segments. Now I guess you get what you ask for and be grateful for this one due to the fact I did this in 105-degree Las Vegas Heat!!!

Also, I pushed hard to do well on this segment. It will be tough for others to beat and be a segment for a long time on Strava.

Day #7 – 15 Day (1) segment per day challenge.

Day (7)

Strava Segment Title: eL Torrito - 1Seg A Day Challenge - TW.Sprint7

Day 7: Well, here we are now. Day 7 of the segment challenge and we still don’t have any takers on these segments. There are some saying that these segments are too long.

When I had set out to do the segment challenge, I wanted the segments to be challenging. I felt at the time that there were too many segments being created that were too short or not created to be challenging. Its too easy to just sprint on a segment for 15 to 30 seconds. The feeling of being KOM on a 3 to 5-minute segment is incredible. So, for a segment challenge with segments 30 to 40 minutes long is challenging, but the feeling of completing it and comparing results is what we are looking for here.

If you want to see more segments generated within 5 to 10 minutes each segment, then let me know in the comments or in e-mail as you have been doing. You must have a google account create to comment though.

I will make Day 7's segment shorter than the rest to see what you guys think. After this segment though it will be back to the normal 10 mile segments.

Day #8 – 15 Day (1) segment per day challenge.

Day (8)

Strava Segment Title: eL Torrito - 1Seg A Day Challenge - TW.Sprint8

Day 8: Here we are at day 8 already! It's been fun creating these segments and reading the e-mails. Day 8 segment will be an uphill segment due to the e-mail requests to see uphill segments. I was told that progress data through the Strava app is only on uphill segments as well. We can see results as we get some uphill segments in.

I went on a date with my sweetheart last night. We went to our favorite nacho spot in town. I don’t think I've tried anything on their menu that wasn’t good. Do you have a favorite place to eat with your sweetheart? Let me know in the comments or e-mail us! @ hashtagz.enterprises@icloud.com...

Day #9 – 15 Day (1) segment per day challenge.
Day (9)

Strava Segment Title: eL Torrito - 1Seg A Day Challenge - TW.Sprint9

Day 9: Today’s segment was a tough uphill battle for me due to the wind constantly changing direction and the humidity. It felt like I couldn't adjust to the heat and wind but I tried my best to get a good time for the segment.

I feel that I am not getting the recovery I need each day on these rides. Do you have a routine or ritual that you use to recover? Let me know what you do in recovery because I am in desperate need of knowledge regarding recovery. I dont feel like my body is getting the recovery it needs each day.

What are some methods you use to recovery?

Day #10 – 15 Day (1) segment per day challenge.
Day (10)

Strava Segment Title: eL Torrito - 1Seg A Day Challenge - TW.Sprint10

Day 10: This morning I rode with my morning group. Well I guess I rode with the only two guys that didn't go on the Saints to Sinners event.

This morning group is truly a big influence on why I am a cyclist.

Do you have a ride that you train for during the year that is now an annual event you go to?

This challenge segment is a DH and a bit longer than the usual segments. I try to keep them long and cut through an area where a car can’t drive. I have seen alot of good segments go to waste due to them being driven or someone forgetting their recording and drive across town. I mean come on… we have all done it right?

Let's look and see the segment for Day 10!

Day #11 – 15 Day (1) segment per day challenge.

Day (11)

Strava Segment Title: eL Torrito - 1Seg A Day Challenge - TW.Sprint11

Day 11: Today’s segment was an uphill sprint and about 8.6 miles. This one may be one of my all-time favorites.

I like to choose segments that cut through parks or trails and are pretty long, so nobody is tempted to ruin it by driving them in a car, or accidentally leaving their Strava on record while heading home.
I crashed on my morning ride today. I purchased a new bike, and the gentlemen I had purchased it from decided he would shine the tires up nice with tire shine.
That was a bad idea because into a pretty tight turn at the top of the wash i went down. Luckily, I am okay.

Strava Segment Title: eL Torrito - 1Seg A Day Challenge - TW.Sprint12

Day 12: So, we have hit the 12th day of the segment challenge! I just recently approved some comments from you guys. I apologize for the delay in reviewing the comments. I have also been reviewing the e-mails and am going honor some requests to see more uphill segments.

Day 12 was tough due to not being able to find a good recovery. I will be doing different recovery projects and blogging about the research I find in using different recovery methods. I will also have a blog on finding the best diet to use during a 30-day period. This research will all be blogged on this site so be sure to look for that blog in the future. These methods and research projects will also be available in e-book format to download on iTunes.

Day (13)

Strava Segment Title: eL Torrito - 1Seg A Day Challenge - TW.Sprint13

Day 13: This segment was tough. It was over 100 degrees out when I did this one, so if you destroy my time on this segment I will try to come out in the cool air and improve on my time.

There were issues with unlocking comments on this blog. I hopefully have fixed the issue and we can comment freely now. If you are still commenting and it is not posting or getting through to me, then please email us @ hashtagz.enterprises@icloud.com.

This has been fun and exciting to complete these challenge segments with all of you!  I appreciate the feedback and will look forward to generating more blog content for you regarding the requests I've received.

The top three blog ideas I have selected are: tri-athlete schedule for one month. Which would include running, swimming, and cycling. A diet and nutrition blog for cyclists. Then a recovery plan for active cyclists. I will select one of these projects to blog about post the Strava challenge.

Day #14 – 15 Day (1) segment per day challenge.

Day (14)

Strava Segment Title: eL Torrito - 1Seg A Day Challenge - TW.Sprint14

Day 14: This segment was an uphill battle. We had some tough crosswinds to deal with which made it worse and had 105-degree Las Vegas heat again... Let me know what you all think of an Easter egg challenge for the final segment?

I have an idea that came to mind while I was on a ride. For the final segment we do a hidden segment. Like an Easter egg. This segment will stay hidden for one year. I will then give clues on its location and announce that it will no longer be hidden, and we will see who has found it and holds the KOM on it. I haven't generated the segment yet, but I would like to know if you guys think that’s a good idea.

This will be in a general location of the northwest and west Las Vegas valley area. So, locals and visitors that know of the segment challenge will be able to participate. The clues will be given in my daily activity descriptions. So be sure to follow me on Strava to get the clues.

Day #15 – 15 Day (1) segment per day challenge.

Day (15)

Okay! Here it is! The Easter Egg Segment was created on this activity, and will be made public on Easter of 2020!

I will give the first clue: I went for a Tropical Cruise with my buddy Clayton, but he had to cut the trip short... something about his wash?

New Clue!

Red Alert! The suspect is headed eastbound toward Clayton St. The suspect is said to be carrying a lot of gold PR's and KOM's merchandise from Strava. We have identified the suspect as a white male on a Specialized Expert 2 bike and is said to go by the alias El Torro! The suspect was last seen turning into the wash with a ripped open white shirt at the chest. Suspect may be approximately 6'-1" 165 lbs. Last seen leaving Craig Ranch Park 🚴 💨 💪 🏃 👮 🚓

We need to get these KOM's and PR's back! There is a reward for the next competitor that gets these KOM's and PR's back! 👑 🥇 🏅
